Wines I love - Blackstone 2002 Zinfandel Sonoma County California

What the label says:  Long Considered California's Signature grape, Zinfandel has thrived in Sonoma County since it was first planted in the area in the early 1900's.  Focusing on the warmer northern end of Sonoma County Blackstone sources grapes from the Russian River, Alexander Valley, and Dry Creek Valley to make Zinfandel bursting with intense spice and juicy ripe raspberry flavors.  Blackstone Sonoma County Zinfandel entices the senses with aromas of blackberry and red peppercorn.  The wine showcases racy berry flavors, finishing with a seductive edge of rich vanilla spice.  Never one to say no to outdoor grilling, Blackstone Sonoma County Zinfandel is the perfect wine to enjoy with port spare ribs, grilled meats or hard cheeses. -Dennis Hill Winemaker

Why I like this wine:  Ok I'm biased.  I got this in my Blackstone Wine Club shipment so you can tell I'm a fan of Blackstone wines.  I really only drink their reds however, just a personal preference.  I'm new to Zinfandel wines so it was surprising  I enjoyed this so much.  I had this bottle with steak Fajitas and it was a perfect pairing.  I wanted red meat but also some spice to match the spice of the wine and I was spot on.  This wine is what I'd call a chewy red.  Rather than drink and swallow, I found myself naturally swirling it around and making chewing motions with my teeth to get more and more taste out of the wine.  For any regular red drinker there will be no offensive characteristics found, only a big full flavor to savor sip after sip.
